The purpose of this project is to create areas where people can be and feel accompanied, sharing a room, and performing their own activities.
Traditionally, the "family room" is the home area where the family members get together and everyone does their own activities or tasks such as studying, reading, playing or watching television. Sometimes they share with each other; others, each one will be busy with his own work, but together they share this space, especially in their free time or late in the day when they return back home.
This project, “Shared Family Room", is focused on those people who spend most of their time alone,
either because their families have grown and live separately, or are widowed, divorced, single, self-employed or retired. The fact is that they spend much time alone and require simple and independent human contact, without having to be "visiting someone" to feel accompanied. Circumstance that in large cities is increasing; and especially with the decentralization trend towards labor due to communication tools such as the Internet.
Hopefully the space will have a large table which will help making the people feel accompanied despite of being busy with their own activity. It would also be interesting to have a television, and warm and practical decoration. A fireplace would give a special “homey” touch.
Due to maintenance and security issues, two options are proposed,
1. For people who know each other and have some relationship as family, friends or work colleges:
The idea would be to set a periodically meeting as weekly or biweekly, where each person does their homework, study, work, while being together, like a library. Coffee breaks can aloud human contact, simple and practical.
The place may be the home of any of the participants, whether it's always the same or is varied.
2. For people from the same neighborhood, whether they know each other, or they don’t:
In this case the community room from any building or from the neighborhood, could be a good possibility. Those who access this "Shared Family Room" must live in the neighborhood, and pay a monthly fee for maintenance and cleaning.
This charge should be moderate; just enough to be attractive for the owner to lease the space, and to keep it properly and cozy.
This interaction could generate interesting options for the community in an easy and simple way, without rigid schemes. This could yield excellent results in security, and overall quality of life to the neighborhood.
This is the draft idea of "Shared Family Room”, there are many variations and possibilities to define and detail.
Have a happy day!!
